AGL’s Virtual Power Plant in South Australia (VPP-SA) program was launched in 2016 and when complete, will include 1,000 smart energy storage systems installed ‘behind the meter’ at residences across metropolitan Adelaide forming a virtual power plant that can act as a dispatchable 5MW solar peaking plant. The purpose of the trial is to determine the multiple services and values that a VPP can provide, and how these services interact in practice. This talk with provide a summary of the project progress to date, and a look ahead to forthcoming developments The VPP-SA project is supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency as part of its Advancing Renewables program.
Greg Abramowitz, AGL Manager Market Development
Gregory Abramowitz is a Chemical Engineer by training having completed undergraduate studies at the university of Cape Town in South Africa, and doctoral studies at the University of Sydney. Greg began his career in the offshore oil and gas sector, and joined AGL 7 years ago in the Energy Services division developing and delivering energy efficiency and infrastructure projects for AGL large commercial and industrial customers. More recently Greg developed and led AGL’s LNG Virtual Pipelines business and has managed the VPP-SA program since inception.
